Caicedo is a municipality southwest of Antioquia. It is located close to the Pacific rainforest in the middle of the steepest mountains of the region.
Caicedo's geographical conditions are suited to growing specialty coffee and it is also a challenging area to reach needing to travel 80km on unpaved roads to the region. The people in this region and the producers in this blend are passionate about producing specialty coffee. For many years the farmers were dislodged by guerrillas and could not work their lands. Only Some years ago it has been resolved the farmers came back to their homes and started growing coffee, which became their primary source of income. Thanks to the help and education from the government, the coffee growers can be producing specialty coffee in safety again. In this region the main crop is from November to January when this coffee was harvested and is made up of the varietals castillo and caturra. This group of growers came together in January 2016 to market their coffees together to realise the true value of the coffees they were producing. This alliance is made up of 30 farmers who are the part of families who have been growing coffee for 60 + years high in the Andes. The coffee is picked and then pulped before being fermented in water for 48 hours in open tanks. The coffee is then dried in drying tents or in small mechanical driers weather depending.
